Signe Myers Hovem

Writer, Spiritual Counselor/ITA Energy Practitioner,

Workshop Facilitator

A common thread weaves through most of my professional services and personal practices: the power of words and the sacredness of language to create change and to cultivate awareness and understanding.

Each offering featured on this website connects to contemplations and applications of what it means to be authentic, and what it means to be a balanced sensitive human being.

“Passages”is a blog featuring an inspiring passage from a book or an aspect of a journey. My hope is to create a community of people sharing their own sense of the word’s meaning. After all, we are all passengers on this big beautiful world.

Explore. Enjoy. Be well and loved.

A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well, they strengthen their souls. Story-tellers and poets spend their lives learning that skill and art of using words well. And their words make the souls of their readers strong, brighter, deeper.

Spiritual Counseling

When we open ourselves up, we can expand and grow.

Inspiration, creativity, sensuality, and humor are all aspects of an individual that flourishes when there is an alignment between one’s inner and outer world.

As a Spiritual Counselor, I create a safe space for the words and narrative of my clients. Communication is a skill that creates clarity and connections; done compassionately, it is a craft that benefits inner work and knowing oneself. To listen, to hear, and to accept one’s self amidst the chorus of humanity is both humbling and empowering. And as important as it is to accept “your story” and to find “your voice,” personal growth is also aided by the ability to center oneself in stillness.

Book News

Are you sensitive? Are you empathetic? Empathic? An empath? Do you know the difference?

The Space Between: An Empath’s Field Guide is a nonfiction manuscript seeking literary representation and publishing in 2019. Book Proposal and manuscript available upon request.

Is this the book that can help you understand your sensory nature and your spiritual sensibilities? Yes!

Are you sensitive? Are you empathetic? Empathic? An empath? Presently in the social sciences and therapeutic settings, one’s ability to host empathy is evidence of a range of emotional muscle and strength, and it is easily conjoined with empathic traits. They do have a relationship but it might surprise many to learn that you can be empathic but not feel empathy, and you can have empathy without being empathic. And remarkably, you can be empathic and not be an empath. This is more than mere semantics; it is about understanding your own unique sensory sensitivities and how you relate, interact, and perceive your environment.

I have spent my lifetime making sense of my own heightened sensory experiences in the simple pursuit of wanting to understand their function and purpose. What is this level of sensitivity teaching me about myself and humanity? What is the difference between having empathic traits and sensitivities and actually having the skills and abilities of an empath? I purposely examine being an empath, and my life, through this filter of function and purpose because it reduces the presence of fear when exploring the unknown. The Space Between showcases my questioning nature. A plane flying in the sky can seem miraculous until you understand the mechanics of lift, but the knowing does not remove the wonder.

If you are empathically sensitive, or know someone who is, and would like to register your interest in reading this book, please fill out the contact form. Also, check out my workshop: Sponge or Empath.
